A Major Hotel Is Now Under Construction at Stampede Park

Stampede Park isn’t just getting busier, it’s getting more complete.

Construction is now underway on a 320-room Autograph Collection hotel at the west entrance to Stampede Park, marking the first hotel to move forward in the Culture + Entertainment District and the first full-service, convention-oriented hotel built downtown in 25 years.

The hotel is expected to open in 2028.

Why this is worth knowing now

This project sits at the centre of a much bigger shift happening in the district.

The Culture + Entertainment District is now anchored by:

  • The expanded BMO Centre

  • The new Victoria Park/Stampede LRT station

  • The 17th Avenue SE Extension

  • Construction underway on the future event centre, Scotia Place

As more events, concerts, conferences, and festivals land here, the need for places to stay nearby has grown fast. This hotel is the first response to that demand with more to follow.

What’s being built

Rising 13 storeys, the Autograph Collection hotel is designed as a boutique, full-service stay with:

  • 320 guest rooms

  • Restaurants and gathering spaces

  • Ballroom and meeting rooms

  • A pool, fitness club, and outdoor terrace

  • Direct proximity to Stampede Park venues

It’s positioned as a front-row seat to everything happening in the district, from major conventions to concerts, hockey nights and citywide events.

How this changes the area

This is the first of three major hotel projects planned for the Culture + Entertainment District.

Alongside the Autograph Collection hotel, the proposed W Calgary and JW Marriott Hotel & Residences will add approximately 400 more hotel rooms and hundreds of new homes, with towers that will become some of the tallest in Western Canada.

Together, these projects will introduce:

  • 700+ new hotel rooms

  • Global hotel brands

  • A more active, connected, and vertical district

Visually, that means a denser skyline around Stampede Park. Functionally, it means the area starts to operate as a true year-round destination, not just a place people pass through for one event and leave.

Timeline to know

  • Groundbreaking: early 2026

  • Construction activity: ongoing through 2026–2027

  • Anticipated opening: 2028

You’ll start noticing more on-the-ground construction activity around Stampede Park as excavation and building progress.

The bigger picture

This hotel isn’t about one weekend or one season. It’s part of a long-term plan to make the Culture + Entertainment District a place where people gather, stay and spend time,  whether they’re visiting Calgary or live here already.

In short:
More hotels. More events. More reasons to stay downtown.

And this is just the beginning.
