Everything worth seeing, eating and experiencing during Calgary’s biggest 10 days of the year.
For 10 days every July, Calgary becomes a different city.
Cowboy hats replace baseball caps. Office meetings get rescheduled around pancake breakfasts. Friends who haven’t seen each other in months suddenly find themselves standing in line for mini donuts or meeting up at Nashville North.
The Calgary Stampede is part rodeo, part music festival, part food event and part city-wide celebration. You could spend an entire day watching world-class rodeo athletes. Or never step inside GMC Stadium and still have an incredible time.
That’s what makes Stampede so special. There isn’t one right way to do it.
Whether it’s your first visit or you’ve been coming for years, here’s our guide to making the most of Stampede 2026.
What’s New at the Calgary Stampede in 2026
Every Stampede brings something different, and this year’s lineup is one of the biggest in recent memory.
One of the most anticipated additions is the Flying Fools High Dive, a new show featuring professional divers launching from heights of up to 25 metres into a surprisingly small pool. It’s included with park admission and looks like one of this year’s must-see attractions.
Food lovers will have more than 65 new midway creations to choose from, including everything from the Ramen Donut and Cookies N Cream Korean Dog to a Coke Caesar and Crunchy Critter Corn in a Cup. As always, some will become legends. Others will simply make for great photos.
If you’re more interested in music than midway rides, Stampede continues to expand its reputation as one of Canada’s biggest summer music festivals, with more than 100 acts performing across the Coca-Cola Stage, Nashville North, The Big Four Roadhouse and the Stampede Concert Series.
There are also a few experiences we’d encourage first-time visitors not to overlook this year, including the Calgary Stampede Powwow, Taste of Stampede in the BMO Centre and the Western competitions taking place throughout the Nutrien Western Event Centre.
First Things First
Dates: July 3–12, 2026
If you’ve never been before, here’s one thing to know.
The Calgary Stampede isn’t just an event inside Stampede Park.
It’s something the entire city participates in.
Restaurants roll out western-inspired menus. Businesses host pancake breakfasts. Live music spills onto patios. Downtown fills with boots and denim. Even people who insist they “don’t do Stampede” usually end up going at least once.
If you’re only planning one visit, we’d recommend setting aside an entire day rather than trying to squeeze it into an afternoon.
Choose Your Stampede
One of the biggest mistakes first-time visitors make is trying to do everything.
Instead, think about what kind of day you actually want.
If You’re Here for the Food
Yes, you should try something outrageous on the midway.
But don’t stop there.
Some of our favourite food experiences are actually away from the carnival atmosphere.
The Range Food Hall is one of the best places to take a break, with local vendors, indoor seating and live entertainment throughout the day.
If you’d rather swap deep-fried experiments for something a little more Alberta, head to Ag Grill for cowboy breakfasts, bison burgers and fresh grab-and-go meals.
Looking for a slower pace? The Wine Garden inside Western Oasis is one of the quietest places on the grounds to enjoy a glass of wine, a charcuterie board or a panini.
Of course, no Stampede visit feels complete without trying at least one new midway creation. We’ll have a separate guide rounding up this year’s best bites.
If You’re Here For Live Music
Even if you never step foot on a ride, Stampede is one of the biggest live music events of the summer.
Inside Stampede Park, there are four main stages to choose from. The Coca-Cola Stage, Nashville North and The Big Four Roadhouse are all included with your Stampede Park admission, making it easy to catch live music throughout the day and into the evening. The Coca-Cola Stage is one of our favourite spots for free outdoor concerts, Nashville North is where you’ll find country stars, line dancing and the biggest party atmosphere, while The Big Four Roadhouse pairs live bands with barbecue, dancing and a lively roadhouse vibe.
If you’re looking for arena-sized headliners, the Stampede Concert Series returns to the Saddledome this year with A$AP Rocky on July 4 and Alanis Morissette on July 11. These concerts require a separate ticket, but each ticket also includes admission to Stampede Park on the day of the show.
But the music doesn’t stop at the gates. During Stampede, the entire city comes alive with party tents and music festivals. You’ll find headline acts at Cowboys Music Festival and Badlands Music Festival, along with concerts and events at venues across downtown.
If You’re Bringing Kids
Families usually have the best experience arriving before noon.
The weather is cooler, the lines are shorter and younger kids tend to have much more energy earlier in the day.
Our must-dos would include:
- Dog Bowl
- Flying Fools High Dive
- BMO Kids’ Zone
- Agriculture Building
- Livestock barns
- Midway rides before the afternoon rush
If your schedule is flexible, BMO Kids’ Day remains one of the best value days of the entire festival.
If You Love Western Culture
This is where we’d encourage you to spend more time than you planned.
The rodeo is only one piece of Stampede.
Watch heavy horses thunder through the Nutrien Western Event Centre.
Explore Elbow River Camp.
Visit the Agriculture Zone.
Catch a livestock competition.
Take in the Calgary Stampede Powwow.
This is where you’ll find the traditions that make Stampede unlike any other festival in Canada.
Five Experiences We’d Never Skip
1. The Rodeo
Even if you’ve never watched rodeo before, it’s worth seeing once.
The athleticism, speed and atmosphere inside GMC Stadium are unlike anything else happening during the week.
2. The Evening Show
Chuckwagon racing, relay races, live performances, drones and fireworks make this one of Calgary’s best summer nights.
If you’re only staying late once, make it this one.
3. Flying Fools High Dive
New for 2026, this looks set to become one of the festival’s biggest crowd-pleasers.
4. Elbow River Camp
One of the most meaningful experiences on the grounds.
Take your time here.
Listen.
Learn.
It’s an important part of the Stampede story that many visitors rush past.
5. Walking the Midway After Dark
The lights come on.
The music gets louder.
The energy changes completely.
Even if you don’t ride a single ride, it’s worth seeing.
Looking to Save Money?
You don’t need to pay full price to enjoy Stampede.
There are several free admission days throughout the festival, along with family offers and ticket packages that can make multiple visits more affordable.
