Where to See Calgary’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks

Calgary is getting ready to say goodbye to 2024 in the most dazzling way possible—with a midnight fireworks display that’s guaranteed to wow! Whether you’re braving the cold to catch the action live or watching from the comfort of home, here’s everything you need to know about the fireworks and where to get the best view.

When and Where Are the Fireworks Happening?

The New Year’s Eve fireworks will be launched from Prince’s Island Park at 11:55 p.m., lighting up the Calgary skyline as we count down to 2025. The show is synchronized to a music playlist featuring Canadian artists, which you can tune into on CJSW 90.9FM for the full experience.

The City of Calgary is making it easy to enjoy the display, whether you’re in the heart of the action at Prince’s Island Park or watching from nearby viewing spots like Lot 59.

1. Prince’s Island Park: Fireworks Central

This is the main stage for Calgary’s New Year’s Eve celebration! The fireworks are launched right from the park, so you’ll get a front-row seat to the magic. The party kicks off at 8 p.m., with:

  • Live entertainment
  • A skating and dance party
  • Food trucks serving up warm and tasty treats

Plan to arrive early for a good viewing spot and enjoy the family-friendly festivities leading up to the big moment at midnight.

2. Lot 59 (200 Memorial Dr. N.W.): Fun + Convenience

Just across the river from Prince’s Island Park, Lot 59 is a fantastic alternative for those who want a little extra breathing room but still want to feel part of the action. This spot also hosts free activities, and you’ll have a clear view of the fireworks without being right in the thick of the crowd.

3. Crescent Road N.W.: Skyline Vibes

For a panoramic view of the fireworks bursting over downtown Calgary, Crescent Road N.W. is your spot. This elevated location offers incredible photo opportunities and a slightly quieter vibe. However, there’s a no-stopping zone from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., so plan to park nearby and walk over for a great view.

4. Memorial Drive N.W.: Parking Perfection

The south side of Memorial Drive (eastbound) between 10th Street N.W. and 4a Street N.W. will offer free parking from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., making it a super convenient option. From here, it’s just a short walk to either Prince’s Island Park or Lot 59 for prime viewing.

5. Watch from Home: Cozy + Convenient

If Calgary’s winter chill isn’t your thing, don’t worry—you can still catch every moment of the fireworks display from the comfort of your home. The City of Calgary will livestream the fireworks at calgary.ca/NYE, starting at 11:55 p.m. Tune in to CJSW 90.9FM for the synchronized music, grab your favorite snacks, and enjoy the show in your PJs.

Getting Around on New Year’s Eve

  • Free Transit: Thanks to J.P. Wiser’s sponsorship, Calgary Transit is offering free rides all night, with extended service hours. CTrains run until 4 a.m., and major bus routes like 1, 3, and 301 run until 3 a.m.
  • Road Closures: For safety, Memorial Drive (eastbound and westbound) will be closed between 10th Street N.W. and 4th Street N.E. from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Pro Tips for the Best Night Ever

    • Bundle Up: Calgary’s winter doesn’t mess around, so wear plenty of layers and bring a thermos of something warm.
    • Arrive Early: Popular spots like Prince’s Island Park and Crescent Road N.W. fill up fast, so give yourself plenty of time to get there.
    • Bring a Radio: If you’re watching in person, tune in to CJSW 90.9FM on a portable radio or your phone to hear the synchronized music.
