Hey neighbors! We wanted to share something that could benefit all of us—the Good Food Box Program right here in Lake Bonavista. With grocery prices going up, this program has been a real help for many in the community, and we think it could be for you too!
It’s an affordable way to get fresh fruits and veggies, and the best part? It’s open to everyone—no income restrictions or complicated rules. Just place an order, pick it up, and enjoy. Let us explain how it works and why we think you should check it out.
What is the Good Food Box Program?
The Good Food Box Program is part of the Community Kitchen Program and helps us get fresh produce at wholesale prices. They buy fruits and veggies in bulk, pack them into different-sized boxes, and deliver them right to our Lake Bonavista Community Association once a month.
There’s no income limit or special qualification. Whether we’re seniors, busy parents, or anyone else looking for affordable, healthy food, everyone is welcome to join. Every month, we can order a box of fresh, seasonal produce. It’s an easy way to make sure we always have healthy food at home without paying high grocery store prices.
How It Works (It’s Easy!)
Getting started is simple. There are three box sizes—small, medium, and large—so we can choose the one that fits our household best. All we need to do is place our order by the monthly deadline and then pick up the box at the Lake Bonavista Community Association on the scheduled pickup day.
Just a quick reminder: they don’t send out email reminders, so we’ll need to mark the pickup date on our calendar. And since refunds aren’t available if we miss it, it’s good to stay on top of those dates!
Box Sizes and Pricing
Here’s a breakdown of the sizes and prices:
- Small Box: $30 for 20-25lbs of fresh produce.
- Medium Box: $35 for 30-35lbs.
- Large Box: $40 for 40-45lbs.
Each box includes a variety of fruits and veggies, and it’s always a pleasant surprise to see what’s inside! It’s definitely enough to keep our kitchens stocked with fresh ingredients for meals and snacks all week long.
Pickup Information
Pickup happens at the Lake Bonavista Community Association between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM on the following dates:
- Order by May 27/24 – Pickup on June 5/24
- Order by June 17/24 – Pickup on June 26/24
- No July Order
- Order by Aug 19/24 – Pickup on Aug 28/24
- Order by Sept 16/24 – Pickup on Sept 25/24
- Order by Oct 14/24 – Pickup on Oct 23/24
- Order by Nov 11/24 – Pickup on Nov 20/24
- Order by Dec 2/24 – Pickup on Dec 11/24
We’ll want to make sure we note the pickup dates because, as we mentioned earlier, there are no reminders sent out.
