The Practice of Breath

A Monthly Exploration of Pranayama, Movement, Stillness, and Philosophy.

There is much more to breath than the simple act of breathing. Within the tradition of yoga, pranayama has long been explored as a way of working with breath, energy and attention, and as part of a broader practice of understanding ourselves.

These monthly gatherings offer an opportunity to explore traditional pranayama within the context of yoga, alongside gentle movement, restorative postures, meditation and sound.

Each gathering will have a different focus, drawing from the teachings and philosophy of yoga and exploring the relationship between breath, body and mind. Some months may involve more movement, while others may be slower, with greater attention given to seated practice, meditation or rest. Elements of qi gong may also be woven into the sessions, reflecting their own rich traditions of working with breath, movement and awareness.

Throughout the practice, we’ll consider some of the ideas behind the tradition, they come from, and how they anchor us in the here and the now.

Although each gathering can be enjoyed on its own, the monthly format allows us to return to these practices with fresh curiosity, gradually building familiarity and understanding.

Whether you’re new to pranayama or have an established yoga practice, you’re welcome. The sessions are accessible, with guidance and options to suit different levels of experience.

Each gathering is 90 minutes and limited to eight participants, allowing for a more personal and considered approach to practice.

No previous experience is necessary.
