How this list works
Events are sorted by date, starting today and running to the end of the month. Past events drop off automatically. We pick what goes on the calendar: local shows, markets, pop-ups, classes and festivals within about 90 minutes of the city. We leave off networking nights and sales pitches dressed up as workshops.
Want our picks instead of the full list?
The calendar shows everything. If you’d rather have the short version, our monthly guide narrows it down to the things worth planning around.

What Calgary looks like, month by month
January: The quiet month. Expect indoor markets, comedy, theatre openings and outdoor skating once the rinks are cold enough.
February: Chinook Blast lights up downtown with free winter art and events, and Family Day weekend fills up fast.
March: YYC Food & Drink Experience turns the month into prix fixe season, and the spring home and garden shows arrive.
April: Calgary Expo takes over Stampede Park, and patios start testing their luck.
May: Patio season for real, plus the first outdoor markets and long-weekend events.
June: The Lilac Festival kicks off summer on 4th Street, and Sled Island brings indie music to venues across the city.
July: Stampede runs the first half of the month. Folk Fest takes over Prince’s Island later on.
August: GlobalFest fireworks, Taste of Calgary, and the last full stretch of patio weather.
September: The Calgary International Film Festival, harvest events and the start of the arts season.
October: Haunted houses, pumpkin patches, Halloween events and the first fall markets.
November: Christmas markets open, holiday lights go up, and indoor events take over the calendar.
December: Peak market season, light displays, holiday shows and New Year’s Eve plans.
